🕊️ Lesson 3 – Two Stories about Flying (Part 1: His First Flight)

Author: Liam O’Flaherty

✈️ Summary (Short but Complete)

This story is about a young seagull who was afraid to fly. All his brothers and sisters had already learned how to fly, but he was too scared. He thought that his wings were too weak and that he would fall into the sea. His parents tried to encourage him to take his first flight, but he refused every time.

His parents scolded him for his cowardice. They left him alone on the ledge without food. The young seagull felt lonely and hungry. He watched his family flying, diving, and enjoying themselves in the sky and over the sea.

Finally, he saw his mother coming towards him with a piece of fish. She did not stop near him but halted in the air just before his ledge. The young seagull, mad with hunger, dived to get the food. As soon as he jumped, he fell into the space below, but instead of falling into the sea, he felt his wings spreading naturally.

Soon, he started flying — first fearfully, then joyfully. His family flew around him, screaming with happiness. He was no longer afraid. The story ends with the young seagull successfully learning to fly and enjoying his first flight proudly.
